National Labour Conference Kicks Off

Kathmandu, July 9: A three-day 'National Labour and Employment Conference- 2069 BS' kicked off in the Capital today with a view to finding employment opportunities.

The theme of the Conference is 'Respectful Work and Promotion of Cordial Labour Relations for Employment-Oriented Economic Growth'. The Conference is expected to hold extensive talks on the labour-related acts and its timely revisions and give necessary recommendations to the government to that end.

Inaugurating the Conference, Minister for Labour and Employment Kumar Belbase said the government was committed to inclusive economic development and to creating respectful job opportunities. He expressed the hope that the Conference would be fruitful in establishing cordial relations between the private sector and the government.

Similarly, Ministry's Secretary and Chairman of Conference Organising Committee Somlal Subedi  said the Conference would be  successful in formulating clear policies  regarding the employment sector. Director General at the Department, Dr Man Bahadur BK stressed the need of giving priority to competitiveness, productiveness and employment  for  creating  productive and respectful job  opportunities for women and marginalized communities.

Representative of Professionals Federation Nepal, Bishwanath Pyakurel,  chairman of  the  Nepal Inclusive Trade Union Federation Indra Dev Mishra, Chairman of All Nepal Trade Union Federation Shalikram Jamar Kattel, Chairman of  Nepal Trade Union Congress- Independent Laxman Basnet, Chairman of  General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions  Bishnu Rimal,  Acting Chairman of Confederation of Nepalese Industries  Narendra Kumar Basnet and Vice President of Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Pashupati Murarka  stressed the need of reforms in the labour sector. It is said that around 2.5 million people in the country are unemployed.
