EC Directs Govt. To Scrap Decision On Police Transfer

Kathmandu, June 19: The Election Commission (EC) of Nepal has directed the government to scrap its Monday's decision related to the transfer of Nepal Police senior officers.
The Commission has concluded that the decision was against the Elections Code of Conducts.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers on Monday had decided to transfer five Additional Inspector Generals ( AIGs) and  19 Deputy Inspector Generals ( DIGs) of Nepal Police.
The Cabinet move in the context of the announcement of fresh elections to the Constituent Assembly was against the elections code of conducts and the government has been instructed to withdraw the decision, said Commission's Spokesperson Sharada Prasad Trital.
According to Spokesperson Trital, the Commission had already informed the government about the elections code of conducts.
He said the Commission already sent a letter to government Chief Secretary Madhav Prasad Ghimire, asking him to immediately withdraw the decision.
According to the elections code of conducts, the government could not make any decisions regarding the promotion and transfer of the government employees. Besides, the government is not allowed to make any new political appointments.
