Baidya Formally Announces New Party Formation

Kathmandu, June 19: The CPN, Maoist which emerged out of the UCPN (Maoist) following the walkout of the dissident leaders on Monday formally announced itself a new party at a press conference in the capital today.
Speaking at the press meet, Chairman of the CPN, Maoist Mohan Baidya said they were forced to sever ties with the UCPN (Maoist) and form a new revolutionary party as Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Vice-chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai quit the revolutionary agenda and took the rightist course.
Chairman Baidya also alleged UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Prachanda of surrendering before India and Bhattarai of favoring Indian expansionism by signing the Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (BIPPA).
Baidya, however, said the door to party unity with the UCPN (Maoist) was open till the party’s general convention scheduled for February 2013 if the UCPN (Maoist) leadership was ready to transform by correcting its weaknesses.
He said, “Class liberation, federalism with identity, inclusion, proportional representation, preferential rights and other issues will be party’s course to prepare for communist regime through popular revolt.”
About the party split, he said, "We have not quit party but Prachanda and Baburam did it. They split the party by deviating from ideology, politics and principle."
Responding to a query about the registration of the new party in Election Commission, Chairman Baidya said if they felt need, they would register party, if not would not. He added that they were of the view that parliamentary system would not do any good to people. If necessary, they would go to election, according to leader Baidya.
He urged the UCPN-Maoist not to clash with his party, and if it wanted to clash, his party would retaliate with it.
The constitution should be written through roundtable conference, he said, adding that the conference should be attended not only by the present political parties but also new forces too.
Moreover, leader Baidya said his party could work together with the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, UCPN-Maoist and others based on the agenda but would not follow meekly what they dictate.
