Chairman Dahal Tables Political Document in Politburo Meeting
Kathmandu, July 9: The politburo meeting of the ruling UCPN (Maoist) party began Monday, first time since the breakaway of the Baidya group from the party some three weeks ago
At the meeting, party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal presented a political report outlining the party's strategy in the changed context, especially after the party split.
UCPN (Maoist) spokesperson Dinanath Sharma said the political report includes interpretation of the 12-point agreement, election to the Constituent Assembly (CA), declaration of republic, dissolution of the CA and other major political developments of the country.
According to Sharma, Chairman Dahal has proposed various options to move ahead by resolving the present political deadlock and its process, and the party's future course after the formal split.
In his political document, Mr Dahal has argued that ideological debate was the root cause for a split in the party but party unity was still possible. Ideological clarity was essential for party unity, the political document reads.
The Maoist Chairman has stated that regressive and status-quoist forces were to blame for dissolution of the CA. The elements obstructing federalism based on identity and constitution along with federalism were mainly responsible for the CA dissolution, the report states.
According to Mr Sharma, Chairman Dahal has proposed to review the party's role in the constitution writing process. In his report, Mr Dahal has said that there was no alternative to peace and constitution and the Maoist party should be honest in this regard.
The report has pointed out that the constitution was not drafted due to lack of commitments from the Nepali Congress and the CPN (UML) despite huge sacrifice from the Maoist party.During the meeting, discussions were also held on preparations for the party's seventh extended meeting scheduled to begin from July 16, its management and other issues.
The political report will be tabled in the party's central committee meeting after its approval by the politburo meeting. It would then be tabled at the extended meeting. The politburo members would start deliberations on the report from Tuesday.
Similarly, the meeting suspended Prakash Dahal from the party's member of state committee for his conduct against the party line, Mr Sharma said. The next meeting would start at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday.
