Kathmandu, July 23: The private sector-run higher secondary schools across the country are closed for the second day today due to a strike enforced at the call of the All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) close to the CPN-Maoist.
The Union had on Sunday announced the two-day educational strike, calling for changing the names of those Plus Two colleges that have resemblances to English words including of well known cities in Europe and America and the names of international football clubs. Union coordinator Sharad Rasaili has warned of intensifying the protest if the demand is not addressed soon.
Rasaili demanded that names of colleges should reflect nationality rather than follow the English names. The Union has also called for an end to the culture of 'extravagant advertising' adopted by the private sector plus two colleges just to attract students these days.
