National, Foreign Forces Behind Maoist Split: Gajurel

Kathmandu, June 19: The UCPN-Maoist politburo member Haribol Gajurel has said the Baidya faction split the party at the behest of national and foreign forces.
At an interaction in the capital on Tuesday, leader Gajurel said the Baidya group split the party with the collusion of royalist forces because the group used to claim that the 12-point understanding was faulty.
It is very difficult to institutionalize change without foreign support, he said, adding that relation with all sides should be maintained to achieve the goals.
Leader Gajurel admitted that support from India was continued as the peace and constitution writing processes were yet to be concluded. Till the conclusion of these twin tasks, Baidya's blame of inclination to India would carry no meaning, he added.
Consensus among all parties was essential to hold election, according to leader Gajurel.
He accused the Baidya faction of lacking principles. It was just the fury against party chairman, he added.
Leader Gajurel claimed that his party was moving ahead vigorously following the Chunbang meeting.
However, he said it was unfortunate to split party at this critical juncture of having main duties of completing the tasks of peace process and constitution writing incomplete.
