The Nepali Army, Nepal’s national army, has won a gold medal at the international military exercise ‘Exercise Cambrian Patrol 2026’, held in Brecon, Wales, United Kingdom. The competition took place on October 7 and 8, 2026.
The medal distribution ceremony was attended by Chief of Army Staff Ashokraj Sigdel, who is currently on an official visit to the United Kingdom, according to the Directorate of Public Relations and Information.
The exercise saw participation from 130 teams representing 35 nations, including the United Kingdom. The Nepali Army has been a consistent participant in this annual event since 2014. The exercise itself has been held every year since 1960.
Teams participating in the Cambrian Patrol are required to cover a distance of 40 miles within two days, carrying equipment weighing approximately 70 pounds. The exercise tests various military skills, including weapon handling, intelligence gathering, and the management of casualties and sick personnel.
This is not the first time the Nepali Army has achieved such a distinction. They previously won gold medals in the same competition in 2017, 2019, 2024, and 2025.
The Nepali Army’s 10-member team, led by Team Manager Lieutenant Colonel Nischal Pathak and Patrol Commander Lieutenant Praveen Pandey, arrived in London on September 20, 2026, to participate in the event. The Cambrian Patrol is considered a premier patrolling exercise for the British Army and is organized by the Headquarters 160th (Wales) Brigade.
Further details regarding the names of the individual members of the gold-winning Nepali Army team have not been released. Additionally, comprehensive information about other participating nations’ teams and the medals they received is not yet available.
